The Communication Officer will develop and coordinate implementation of project communication and outreach strategy. He/she will be in NC-7 scale. He/she will work under the direct supervision of the NPC (till induction of Chief, NDCC) and will closely collaborate with Deputy Chief (P&M), PPCs and Thematic Experts for advocacy and creating awareness on combating desertification through sustainable management of land resources.

The specific tasks of the Communication Officer will include:-

  • Conduct communication needs assessments for the Up scaling SLM Programme;
  • Develop & implement communication and outreach strategy focusing on programme outcomes, objectives and activities;
  • Recommend and oversee the development and implementation of efficient internal communication protocols for SLM programme;
  • Act as programme communications focal person and manage various activities related to outreach and awareness campaign;
  • Organize media events such as press conferences, interviews of key programme staff and stakeholders on public & private channels of TV & radio, newspapers, and magazines;
  • Coordinate the development of publications – hardcopy, multimedia and/or web-based, and provide quality control in line with the UNDP-GEF standards;
  • Ensure that publications like case studies, programme updates, occasional papers, newsletters etc.) are printed, and updated (in case of website) in a timely and consistent manner;
  • Review the programme website(s) on a regular basis and provide content development support for website  updating and ensure consistency of the material;
  • Maintain regular liaison with project partners to develop linkages and provide necessary support accordingly;
  • Assist the programme team in documenting case studies and lessons learnt for the website, advocacy campaigns and progress reports;
  • Undertake field visits to the programme sites for documenting success stories and providing communication support;
  • Write, design and edit project publications/brochures/factsheets/newsletter/ posters on various topics of SLM for wider dissemination among stakeholders;
  • Undertake initiatives for community awareness on programme interventions in Urdu and regional languages;
  • Assist the programme team in organizing  conferences, workshops, and seminars;
  • Assist the Programme Specialist (land use planning and Implementation) and Programme Specialist (GIS) in managing SLM Information;
  • Coordinate with the programme team for dissemination of publications/awareness material.

Experience and Education:-

  • Master Degree in Mass Communication, MBA or any other relevant degree from HEC recognized university.
  • A minimum of five (5) years working experience related to the field.

Other Skills:-

  • Experience of working with donor funded projects, particularly with UN agencies will have an added advantage;
  • Prior experience of developing contents for websites, managing web-plate forms, developing and operational zing communication strategy, including managing project’s advocacy and outreach  programme;
  • Ability to work in a complex and multi-stakeholders environment;
  • Good computer skills for data analysis, preparation of presentation and report writing; and
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to fluently speak English and Urdu.
