The Refugee Affected and Hosting Areas programme (RAHA) has been designed to promote regional stability and compensate for the social, economic and environmental consequences wrought on Pakistani communities by the presence of more than 3 million Afghans over the past 30 years. For the 1.7 million registered Afghans remaining in Pakistan after the large-scale repatriation since 2002, the programme is promoting peaceful co-existence with local communities until conditions in Afghanistan are conducive for their return. The Programme: The overall objective of the RAHA programme is to improve livelihoods, rehabilitate the environment and enhance social cohesion within communities of refugee-affected and hosting areas. Public services are being improved and policies made more effective by strengthening the capacities of the government, community institutions and vulnerable groups. RAHA is a five-year initiative between the Government of Pakistan (SAFRON / CCAR / EAD), the UN System and International Donors including EC and implementing partners. Under the framework of the One UN in Pakistan, RAHA is a Joint Programme Component of the Disaster Risk Management Joint Programme within the UN Delivering as One.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Social Cohesion Coordinator (SCC) will report to the respective Regional Manager and provide him all support with regard to social mobilization and other field activities. In close cooperation with the other programme staff, local communities, line departments and NGOs the CDS while spending 70% of his / her time in the field will perform the following tasks:

  • Liaise closely with the identified CSO in the formulation, establishment & operation of a successful participatory development process and shall be the main link between head office & field offices / staff for the implementation of programme interventions in accordance with the agreed work plan & getting feedback of the communities.
  • Guide & support the Social Mobilization teams of the identified CSOs in carrying out the work plan activities & compile reports of the participatory surveys & activities.
  • Shall regularly monitor the performance & inspect on going CPIs schemes in the field & report on these activities.
  • Ensure that proper record of all activities i.e demonstration activities, trainings, CPIs & other programme related activates is maintained at Regional Office (RO) level.
  • Regularly collect gender disaggregated data related to social development for documenting the outputs / outcomes / impacts of the programme interventions.
  • Submit a consolidated monthly progress report of the region based on individual district / SM report with specific analysis / recommendations.
  • Any other task assigned by the RM or PM.

Experience:

  • At least 8 years practical experience in community development through a participatory process.
  • Knowledge about participatory survey techniques, data analysis & report writing & qualified to train other in participatory community development.
  • Fluent knowledge of English, local language and culture of the area assigned is essential
