Background:

UNDP and United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme are jointly implementing a project titled “Support to Volunteerism Initiatives in Pakistan.” One of the components of the project is to support National Volunteer Movement (NVM) newly established by the Government in response to the earthquake. In order to enhance the organizational capacity of the NVM at the initial stage, UNDP is recruiting 3 professionals who will work at NVM office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under overall guidance of the Chairman & CEO, NVM and with direct supervision of the Deputy Chairman, NVM, the Public Relations and Communications Manager will perform following duties and responsibilities:

Develop and maintain media relations, deal with re-active media interest in addition to pro-active press and will take responsibility for information gathering, contributing to the formulation of policy, assist with media contacts, develop and promote communication processes, implement and improve communications systems and provide support for promotional events. Responsibilities include:

Developing and implementing a communications strategy to achieve an informed public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the National Volunteer Movement.

Serve as lead spokesperson for the public information program.

Provide technical and policy advice on highly complex public information and communications issues; develop and disseminate best practices.

Oversee the preparation of reports and other written material. Conduct sensitive political liaison work; create and maintain networks of high level communications contacts with broadcast media, the press, governmental agencies, international institutions and other civil society organizations (non-governmental organizations, businesses, community organizations, women's groups, etc.).

Contribute to development of organizational public relations policies.

Assess the overall effectiveness of the public information strategy and programs and make needed changes in approach and technique.

Provide diverse materials (briefings, speeches, questions and answers) for use by senior management, oversee the development of high profile multi-media communications campaigns; set quality and production standards for information dissemination.

He/she provides regular feedback to keep senior management informed of the Office’s information activities and of l trends, including attitudes towards the NVM.

Organizes and prepares written outputs, like background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.

Act as the internal contact for all electronic communication issues and proactively network with colleagues across the organization and external partners to ensure effective communication channels.

Contribute to the website development and content.

Perform other related duties, as assigned.
